['wɪmɪnz lɪbə'reɪʃn 'muːvmənt], Kunstwort Women's Lịb, in den USA Mitte der 1960er-Jahre im Zusammenhang mit der Bürgerrechtsbewegung entstandene Frauenbewegung. Mit v. a. politischen und sozialen Forderungen kämpft das W. L. M., das vermeintlich weibliche Eigenschaften (z. B. gefühlsbetont, irrational, passiv) als nicht biologisch fundiert, sondern als soziale Konstrukte betrachtet, gegen die traditionelle Bestimmung geschlechtsspezifischer Rollen, die Frauen einen minderwertigen Status zuweisen, und gegen männliche Überlegenheitsansprüche, für die das W. L. M. den Ausdruck »male chauvinism« (Chauvinismus) prägte. Herausragende Vertreterinnen sind u. a. Betty Friedan, Germaine Greer und Kate Millett. (Feminismus, Frauenbewegung)
